What happens today in a practice using WhatsApp with patients

Situations any private practice recognizes:

Photos of tests and lab results

The patient sends a photo of a lab result, an X-ray, a hospital report. Health data — the most sensitive in GDPR, Art. 9 — travel through servers whose business model is unrelated to healthcare. The practice is responsible for processing from the moment they receive them.

Results and diagnoses via chat

The patient asks about a result after hours, asks for clarification on a diagnosis, shares a concern. The conversation contains identifiable clinical information. If the device is lost or shared, medical secrecy is compromised via a technical route not foreseen in informed consent.

Communication between professionals about a patient

Consultation with a colleague, referral to a specialist, second opinion, coordination with the lab. Traceability of the patient's clinical information is diluted in WhatsApp groups with generic names. Impossible to audit if a patient complaint or professional college file arises.

What the law says

Medical secrecy is protected by Art. 199 of the Criminal Code, the General Council's Code of Medical Deontology (arts. 27 to 31), and specifically for data by Law 41/2002 regulating patient autonomy and rights and obligations regarding clinical information and documentation.

Health data receive maximum GDPR protection for being in Art. 9 (specially protected data). Processing is only lawful in specified cases — among them, healthcare provision by a professional subject to secrecy. The choice of technical channel is part of the technical and organizational measures required by Art. 32 GDPR and specifically for Art. 9 data.

A leak or undue access to Art. 9 GDPR data can carry sanctions of up to 4% of annual turnover or 20 million euros — beyond deontological responsibility to the professional college and personal criminal responsibility of the professional.

How Solo2 Pro solves it

Clinical content does not pass through our servers

The lab result photo, the diagnostic comment, the consultation with a colleague — they travel directly between devices. We have no copy, no cloud backup, no technical way to read them. Medical secrecy is respected by architecture, not just declaration.

No patient personal identity in our infrastructure

The patient identifies with a pseudonymized cryptographic identifier. We do not know their name, ID, or medical record number. What the patient transmits to you in the content (which we don't see) is between you and them.

Local clinical labels

Organize your tunnels with local labels and colors (review pending, test sent, urgent, referred). Instant filters. Labels are yours only, never synced to the patient. Local vault encrypted with the professional's 24 words.

Traceable export for medical records

If you need to provide a patient conversation to their electronic medical record, an expert report, or a professional college file, Solo2 Pro generates a file with a technical chain of custody. More robust than a screenshot, integrable as an attachment in the medical record.

Compatibility with your deontological obligation

Medical secrecy is not fulfilled just by not telling what you know — it also includes not technically facilitating others knowing it. Solo2 Pro helps you document that you've complied:

  • Channel whose architecture technically prevents the provider (Menzuri) from accessing clinical content.
  • Verifiable encryption with public primitives (X3DH and Double Ratchet, the same as Signal).
  • Servers in European territory, without international transfers of content (which doesn't exist in our infrastructure).
  • Data processing agreement signed with Menzuri Gestión S.L. with minimal scope, as we don't process patient content.
  • Pseudonymized identities: no directly identifying patient data appears in our infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions

Is it valid as an attachment to medical records?

Selective export generates a file with technical chain of custody that can be incorporated as an attachment. The medical record remains the main document; Solo2 Pro complements, does not replace. Technical integrity of the attachment is verifiable by an expert if a claim arises.

How does it work for a clinic with multiple professionals?

The consultation plan (49 €/month for up to 10 users) covers both patient communication and professional communication. Each doctor with their own encrypted identity. Internal consultations stay within the firm's encrypted environment, not in scattered WhatsApp groups.

Can I use it with elderly patients who are not tech-savvy?

Solo2 works as a Progressive Web App in the browser — no App Store, no phone registration, no complicated initial passwords. The patient receives a link from you, opens it, and the connection is established. For elderly people with technical difficulty, it is usually simpler than registering for any service.
