When you talk to someone on Solo2, messages travel directly between your devices. There's no server in the middle reading, storing, or analyzing what you say.
Our server does just one thing: introduce the two people. Once connected, it disappears from the equation. It's like a host who introduces two people at a table and then walks away.

Real anonymity
No phone number. No email. Nothing.
To use Solo2 you only need to choose a username and a password. We don't ask for your phone number, email, ID, or anything that identifies you. Your username can be made up.
Why? Because if we don't have your personal data, nobody can steal it. Not from us, not from anyone. You can't leak what you don't have.

File transfer
Send files of any size. No limits.
Photos, videos, documents, whatever you need. There's no size limit. We've tested with 10 GB files and they work perfectly. The file goes straight from your device to the recipient's, without being uploaded to any cloud.
If the connection drops mid-transfer, it automatically resumes from where it left off. And every file is verified with a digital signature to make sure it arrived intact.

Your messages aren't stored in any cloud
Everything you write, send, and receive is stored encrypted inside your own device, in what we call your vault. Nobody else has access — not us, not the phone manufacturer, not the internet provider.
If you use Solo2 on two devices, they sync with each other automatically. If you lose one, the other has the copy. But everything stays between your devices — never in a third-party cloud.

Sovereign recovery
24 words. Your entire identity in one phrase.
When you create your account, Solo2 generates a phrase of 24 random words that represent your complete cryptographic identity. It's the same system Bitcoin uses to protect wallets worth millions.
With those 24 words you can recover your identity on any device, even without an internet connection. No recovery email, no security questions. Your 24 words are your identity.
Solo2 never asks you to trust us. It gives you the tools so you don't need to trust anyone.

Groups are the weak point of any messaging system. Every person added increases the risk of the conversation losing its privacy.

If you lose your only device and have no backup, your data is gone
Your data is yours, on your devices. That means the responsibility to protect it is also yours. Use Solo2 on two devices and they sync automatically.

You can’t search for contacts like in an address book. You share your connection code with whoever you want to connect with.
We don’t have your address book or your contacts. To connect with someone, you share your 8-character code and that person sends you a tunnel request.

The server only exists to introduce two people. Once connected, they don't need us. But for that first introduction, they do.
Regulatory compliance
GDPR by design, not by paperwork
European data protection regulations require that personal data be properly protected and that, if it leaves the European Economic Area, an equivalent level of protection be guaranteed. In practice, many companies unknowingly break these rules every time they send a document containing client data through messaging services whose servers are outside Europe.
With Solo2, the problem simply doesn't exist. Data never leaves the user's device. It doesn't pass through any server, European or otherwise. Our signalling server is in Germany, but it doesn't even take part in the conversation. There's no international data transfer because there's no data transfer at all.
